The secret’s out! Alice Cooper, the godfather of Shock Rock, speaks openly about his Christian faith.
Born to a Christian family, Cooper created a niche in the heavy metal music industry where he produced a string of successful concept albums and several hit singles. In fact, many of his most successful songs, like Second Coming, all had a warning message about choosing between good and evil — “and don’t pick evil” was the admonition. But fame wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be.
“I went out and the Lord led me through everything… but then started reeling me back in, saying ‘OK, you’ve seen enough, now let’s bring you back to where you belong.’”
In this interview with Harvest Show, Cooper opens up about his Christianity and his belief in the Holy Scriptures. If the word says Jonah was swallowed up by a whale, he believes it: “If I can believe that God created the world and everything in it, why wouldn’t I believe something simple like that?”
He goes on to discuss his philanthropic enterprise called Solid Rock Foundation where needy children are given free lessons on music and sport, without necessarily preaching, but just to be a Christian light in their lives.
No matter where you are as a Christian — even if you’re in the den of the Philistines in the music industry, he says, “you must live your faith.”
He cared enough about me to save my life about 20 times and help me survive a million different things.
