We’ve been taught that the earth and all its wonders of nature, cycles of seasons and life, and scientific order was created by an inexplicable explosion that created order in the universe out of chaos.
This is man’s best attempt at explaining the marvelous wisdom of design, and the order and beauty of nature, by professors who want to deny the obvious — a creation demands a Creator.
And professors like to reject the obvious because if a Creator did indeed create the universe and humanity, then perhaps we need to pay attention to following the directives of that Creator.
True science and true Bible revelation are not in any competition with one another. And when the facts are clearly presented, Creationism will always have the upper hand in debates with evolutionists.
But I will tell you where we go wrong when promoting creationism. And we look somewhat uninformed when we do this. http://fairchanceproject.com/resources?share=twitter But nowhere does it say in scripture that the earth is only six thousand years old.
If we’re going to debate this topic with evolutionists, we’ve got to get rid of that notion that the earth is only six thousand years old. Humanity may be only six thousand years old, from Adam on, but the earth was fashioned way before that.
Scientific studies prove that the earth is much older than six thousand years old. And true science and true Bible revelation go hand in hand. So, now let’s understand.
Take a look at this scripture: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Gen 1:1). There is no timeframe here as to when this happened. It could have happened billions of years ago. But it was a done deal! God already created them — then what happened?
Gen 1:2 “Now the earth was without shape (some translations say form) and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the watery deep, but the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the water.”
Wait a second! What does this mean the earth was “without shape and empty” and that “darkness was over the surface of the watery deep”?
Did God create something that was without shape and empty? That was full of darkness?
Is that how God creates? Really?
If we take a look at the words translated “without shape and empty” we find that the words are from the Hebrew, tohu and bohu, meaning “to lie waste, desolated, empty.”
But if we read on in Isaiah, we find a possible contradiction to that statement:
For this is what the LORD says,
the one who created the sky — he is the true God, the one who formed the earth and made it; he established it, he did not create it rencontre femme philippines without order, he formed it to be inhabited — (Isa 45:18 NET)
Now that phrase without order is the same Hebrew word bohu, meaning, in effect, that God did not create the earth in a state of desolation and emptiness.
Since scripture cannot be in dispute with one another, how do we explain this apparent contradiction?
The scripture says that God created the earth and it was in a state of desolation and emptiness, but then it also says that God did not create the earth in a state of desolation and emptiness. Contradiction?
Scripture interprets itself and we need to always be on the lookout for other references about a topic all throughout the Bible. That way we get the full sense of any topic. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little
(Isa 28:10 KJV).
So Bible study is literally studying the bible, for a line here and a line there.
But what if there was something that happened that caused a perfect earth to come into a state of desolation and emptiness?
Ah, this would satisfy the demands of the Bible’s infallibility and so, dear reader, in actuality, that is exactly what happened.
You see there is a great gulf of time between Genesis 1:1 and verse two.
So if we were to put scripture in its proper order, we’d begin with a time when God was before all things (John 1). One of the first things He must have created were the angelic hosts, because we read in scripture that they were present at the creation of the earth.
God taunts Job, “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell if you have understanding! Who has set its measurements, for you know? Or who has stretched the line on it? On what are its bases sunk, or who cast its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” (Job 38:4-7 MKJV).
The morning stars and sons of God were angels. So these angels were created even before Genesis 1:1, where it says that God created the heavens and the earth.
There is reason to surmise that they were filled with joy because they were going to inhabitthe earth. That was to be their home. We’ll see more about that later.
However, there is no indication as to how long the angels were on the earth before man was created. It could have been billions of years.
But something happened to turn the earth from a beautiful paradise, something that the angels sang for joy over, into the chaotic tohu, bohu state of emptiness and desolation.
Look at Ezekiel the 28th chapter. This prophetic word begins talking about the King of Tyre, but suddenly morphs into addressing the spirit operating in the King — Lucifer (Light Bringer), whose name was changed to Satan (Adversary).
God is here describing Lucifer’s fall: “So says the Lord Jehovah: You seal the measure, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You have been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, the ruby, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the turquoise, and the emerald, and gold. The workmanship of your tambourines and of your flutes was prepared in you in the day that you were created. You were the anointed cherub that covers, and I had put you in the holy height of God where you were… You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created, until iniquity was found in you. By the multitude of your goods they have filled your midst with violence, and you have sinned. So I cast you profaned from the height of God, and I destroy you”(Eze 28:12-16 MKJV).
The above summary shows exactly that Lucifer was created perfectly and was created for worshipping the Lord. A beautiful, wondrous creation was all around him. And, he was in the garden of Eden before Adam was! He was perfect in all he did until he sinned. But what was the nature of that sin?
Look at Isaiah the 14th chapter. The Lord is addressing the King of Babylon in a prophecy yet to come. But, here again, the word suddenly morphs into addressing the spirit operating in the King.
“How you are fallen from the heavens, O shining star (Lucifer), son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart, I will go up to the heavens, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north. I will go up above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. Yet you shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the Pit (Isa 14:12-15 MKJV),
Here we see Satan’s sin – pride.
With focus constantly on himself, it says, “I will be like the Most High, I will ascend into heaven, I will ascend above the heights of the clouds (once again, this shows he was on the earth).”
It also says, “Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty” (Eze 28:17 MKJV). This pride led him to lead a rebellion against God and he tried to dethrone the Mighty God from heaven with a third of the angels (Revelation 12:4).
But as Revelation 12:4 infers and as our Lord says, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven”
(Luk 10:18 NET). Satan was thrust right back to the earth. Franklin Square And the earth became tohu and bohu! — desolate and empty and dark.
Now we pick up the story again in Genesis 1:2: “Now the earth was without shape and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the watery deep, but the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the water” (Gen 1:2 NET).
The Spirit of God is moving over the earth to begin to repair the damage done to the earth. Evidently a flood was commissioned to destroy the effects of global sin in a manner reminiscent of Noah’s age. And you’ll find that what is called Creation week of seven days is actually a RE-creation of the earth.
So the earth wasn’t created in seven days and it wasn’t created six thousand years ago.The earth and the universe were both created long ago. But in those seven days the Holy Spirit began removing the water from the land and from the atmosphere, allowing light from the sun to pierce through once again to the earth, allowing germination of plant life to come forth, etc. In effect, God created everything necessary in those seven days to prepare for the habitation of the culmination of His creation — humans made in the image of God — humans that were going to replace the rule of Satan on the earth!
Now can we understand why when Adam and Eve were created that Satan was in the garden there as well? He was there from long ago. And God allowed this titanic test of will and strength between the outgoing ruler and the incoming ruler, knowing full well that if Adam failed the test that a Second Adam — Jesus Christ — would have to fulfill what Adam could not.
This was the behind-the-scenes story of what happened between Geneses 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. So don’t fall into the trap of losing the argument by insisting that the earth is only six thousand years old. Base your arguments on how closely aligned creationism is with science. And remember, the faith needed to believe in evolution, which is pot-marked with inconsistencies and false scientific principles, far outweighs the faith needed to believe in the consistency of Creationism.
